                               speech of

                       HON. JAIME HERRERA BEUTLER

                    in the house of representatives

                        Wednesday, April 3, 2019

The House in Committee of the Whole House on the state of
the Union had under consideration the bill (H.R. 1585) to
reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act of 1994, and for
     other purposes:

Ms. HERRERA BEUTLER. Mr. Chair, I've been a strong supporter of VAWA,
consistent with my vote to advance this important bill to assist
victims of domestic abuse. However, H.R. 1585 in its current form is
not perfect and I have serious outstanding concerns with the provisions
relating to Second Amendment protections. I urge my colleagues to work
in a bipartisan effort to address these concerns so

we can have a final bill that respects Americans' constitutional
rights.
