                                 PRAYER

Reverend Michael Wilker, Lutheran Church of the Reformation,
Washington, D.C., offered the following prayer:
O God, with a mighty hand, You bring people out of slavery and death
and into freedom and new life. While Congress is in recess, as Jews
celebrate Passover, Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, and
others gather for spring ceremonies.
Be with those whose sacred places have been destroyed and desecrated.
We lament that the freedom to worship in this land is constrained by
racism and xenophobia, and we are sorry when our disrespect for people
of other religions has harmed them and made us slow to come to their
aid.
We pray for our civic leaders and servants who are called to defend
the freedom to worship.
Out of the ashes of despair, kindle hope. Counter the winds of hate
with the breath of peace. From wintry soil cause new seeds to spring
forth. Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an
ever-flowing stream.
  Amen.
