                                 PRAYER

  The Chaplain, Dr. Barry C. Black, offered the following prayer:
  Let us pray.
  Eternal God, who rules the raging of the sea, we thank You for these 
moments when we are more aware of Your presence. We are grateful that 
we can seize these opportunities to lift our hearts in praise.
  Use our lawmakers today to live with such excellence that they will 
illuminate the darkness of our world. Lord, give them the grace and 
mercy that will inspire them to live for Your glory. Remind them that 
the earnest and fervent prayers of the righteous avail much. Cleanse 
the inner fountains of their hearts from all defilement and pretense as 
they strive to please and honor You.
  We pray in Your great Name. Amen.
