                    in the house of representatives

                        Thursday, July 25, 2019

Ms. PLASKETT. Madam Speaker, I rise today to honor former Postmaster
Louis A. Jackson, a native son of the Virgin Islands who dedicated 46
years of his life to the United States Postal Service and serving the
American people. During his time with the Postal Service, Mr. Louis
Jackson was integral in the building of new post offices, expanding
delivery routes, and has served as a mentor for many.
An accomplished and venerable Postmaster, he made a significant
difference to the postal system throughout the Virgin Islands and is a
three-time winner of the Postal Service's prestigious National Benjamin
Award. Many in the community relied on the steady hand and calm
demeanor of Mr. Jackson in resolving postal and other issues in the
community.
Outside of the Postal Service, Postmaster Jackson is an active member
of the community. He has served as a mentor and counselor for the
countless young people in the Virgin Islands and taught martial arts to
over 3000 students. He also served as the Chairman of the St. Croix
chapter of the American Cancer Society, Vice President of the National
League of Postmasters, and much more. Postmaster Louis Jackson has
lived his life enriching his community and it is my honor on behalf of
the 116th Congress and everyone who has been touched by his work and
kind spirit, to say thank you.
