                                 PRAYER

  Reverend Gary Studniewski, St. Peter's Catholic Church, Washington 
D.C., offered the following prayer:
  Almighty God, we thank You for the favor You have shown to the United 
States of America from the country's founding.
  We ask Your continued favor today in continuing to provide national 
leaders dedicated to serving the common good, by legislating in accord 
with the Democratic principles and the constitutional values that help 
make our country strong.
  As we open this session of our House of Representatives, we ask You 
to bless each elected Member of this House, staff and support 
personnel, and family members of those who serve here.
  Protect and strengthen them for service present and future. Bless the 
work of this session and beyond as we continue to seek Your spirit and 
light to build up a country of prosperity, peace, and justice for all.
  With profound gratitude and in humility, we pray.
  Amen.
