Mr. CARTWRIGHT. Madam Speaker, I rise today to honor former athlete
and Northeastern Pennsylvania native, Chris Wadas. This year, Chris was
inducted into the Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame at the 35th annual
dinner on August 11, 2019 for his distinct athletic achievements as a
runner.
Each year, the Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame honors those who
have brought recognition to the state of Pennsylvania through their
outstanding achievements and contributions in athletic endeavors.
As an athlete at Misericordia University, Chris was a 4-time MVP,
National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Mideast All-Region
selection, 3-time Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) individual
conference champion, 4 time All-Conference, and he helped lead the team
to 4 PAC team titles. In track and field, he was the 2005 team MVP and
All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) in the 10,000 meters. In
indoor track, he set the school record at 1500 meters. In outdoor
track, he holds the 3,000 meter school record and is on the all-time
Misericordia top 10 list for 1500 meters, 5,000 meters, 3,000 meters
and 10,000 meters. Chris is a member of the Misericordia University
Athletics Hall of Fame and was the 2004 Misericordia University Wendy's
Athlete of the Year.
Chris continued running after college, boasting impressive finishes
and numerous wins in races across Pennsylvania. Since then, he has run
for the Inside Track Running Store, Keystone Track Club, and the
National Running Center.
Currently, Chris is a track and cross country coach at Misericordia
University. In his 13 years of coaching, his teams have won 10 Middle
Atlantic Conference (MAC) titles, 4 in cross country, 4 in indoor track
and field, and 2 in outdoor track and field. In addition, his teams
have won one PAC men's title in cross country and one women's outdoor
ECAC title. Chris was named two-time NCAA Mideast Regional Head Coach
of the Year. He was also named MAC Coach of the Year 10 times in his 13
years of coaching.
It is an honor to recognize Chris on his induction into the Luzerne
County Sports Hall of Fame. May his story and athletic career serve as
an inspiration to the next generation of Pennsylvania athletes striving
for excellence.
