                    in the house of representatives

                        Friday, October 11, 2019

Mr. COSTA. Madam Speaker, I rise today to recognize Sandra Witte, the
Dean of Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, on her
retirement from Fresno State University after 38 years.
Ms. Witte first ventured into the dietary and nutrition industry in
the 1970's, when she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Food and
Nutrition at California State Polytechnic University. She continued her
studies, earning a Master of Science in Home Economics, Nutrition and
Dietetics at California State University, Fresno. Then in 1992, she
earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Food Systems Management at the Oregon
State University.
Sandra has been a registered dietician since 1975, held a certificate
in Adult Weight Management, and a certificate in Child and Adolescent
Weight Management. Her 15 years in the nutritional industry allowed her
to serve as a well-versed program representative on the Commission on
Accreditation for Dietetics Education Board.
Sandra began her career at Fresno State as a professor of nutrition.
She later became a chairwoman of the Department of Food Science and
Nutrition. In 2007, she rose to assume the title of Associate Dean of
Academic Affairs, and in 2014, she held the role of Interim Dean. In
2016, Sandra was named the Dean of Jordan College.
Ms. Witte has had a transformative effect on the students, staff, and
community at Fresno State. Under her administration, Jordan College
strengthened and expanded partnerships that will have a lasting
impression, including overseeing renovations for the college's food
science and nutrition laboratory.
As Sandra steps into the next chapter of her life, I look forward to
seeing what she will accomplish. She leaves a legacy of leadership,
hard-work, and determination, which will remain instilled in the Fresno
State community.
Madam Speaker, it is with great respect that I ask my colleagues in
the House of Representatives to congratulate Ms. Sandra Witte on a
successful career as a valued educator and leader. It is my honor to
join her family and many friends in celebrating her retirement.
