HONORING THE ONE HUNDRETH SEASON OF ST. BONAVENTURE UNIVERSITY MEN'S
                               BASKETBALL

                                 ______

                             HON. TOM REED

                              of new york

                    in the house of representatives

                      Wednesday, December 4, 2019

Mr. REED. Madam Speaker, today I rise to recognize the one hundredth
season of St. Bonaventure University Men's Basketball.
St. Bonaventure University's basketball program is celebrating their
one hundredth season this year, marking the beginning of this legendary
legacy that started so long ago. The first game took place on December
11, 1919 in Butler Gym.
The once simple team rose to national prominence in the 1950s and
1960s, thanks to All-Americans Tom Stith, Sam Stith and Fred Crawford.
The centennial celebration also marks the fiftieth anniversary of the
1969-70 Final Four Squad. This legendary team finished with a 25-3
record which they are still remembered for today. In 1970, Bob ``Big
Cat'' Lanier led St. Bonaventure to the Final Four of the NCAA
Tournament. Lanier scored 2,067 points during his basketball career.
The entire 1970s team will be recognized on December 7 for their
accomplishments.
The Bonnies, throughout their tenure, have brought joy to many fans,
gave many students a variety of opportunities on the team and have
brought the community together over the fascinating game of basketball.
This anniversary is one to be remembered--a great milestone in the
history of both the team and the university.
Given the above, I ask that this Legislative Body pause in its
deliberations and join me to recognize St. Bonaventure University on
their one hundredth season of basketball. Go Bonnies.
