                         MESSAGE FROM THE HOUSE

  At 3:03 p.m., a message from the House of Representatives, delivered 
by Mrs. Cole, one of its reading clerks, announced that the House has 
passed the following bills, in which it requests the concurrence of the 
Senate:

       H.R. 4. An act to amend the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to 
     revise the criteria for determining which States and 
     political subdivisions are subject to section 4 of the Act, 
     and for other purposes.
       H.R. 2534. An act to amend the Securities Exchange Act of 
     1934 to prohibit certain securities trading and related 
     communications by those who possess material, nonpublic 
     information.
