                                 PRAYER

  The Chaplain, the Reverend Patrick J. Conroy, offered the following 
prayer:
  God of light, we give You thanks for giving us another day.
  As the House lies silent on a Sunday, bless all the Members with 
patience and courage, that they might remain faithful to their oaths to 
the Constitution in a contentious political climate. May they be 
confident of Your presence with them, and be encouraged thereby.
  Bless, as well, the people of this great Nation with wisdom, 
knowledge, and understanding, that they might appreciate the difficult 
responsibility their Representatives carry.
  Please keep all who work for the people's House in good health, that 
they might faithfully fulfill the great responsibility given them in 
their service to the work of the Capitol.
  Bless us this day and every day. May all that is done be for Your 
greater honor and glory.
  Amen.
