                       Tuesday, February 4, 2020

Mr. THOMPSON of California. Madam Speaker, I rise today to honor
Patricia G. Leary and to celebrate her retirement after three decades
of public service on a local, state, and federal level.
Ms. Leary began her career in public service after graduating from
the University of California, Los Angeles in 1981 with a degree in
Political Science. Upon graduating, Ms. Leary began working as a
legislative staffer in California State Government. From 1991 to 1995,
Ms. Leary worked as my Legislative Director in the California State
Senate, where she was a valuable asset to my team. She was an
articulate, straightforward communicator with a strong passion for
public service. Her institutional knowledge and astute political advice
were instrumental to our success.
After working in my office, Ms. Leary became the Principal Consultant
for the California State Senate and later the Legislative
Representative for the California State Association of Counties. After
several years as the Assistant County Administrator for Yolo County,
Pat became the Chief Deputy Director at the Department of Social
Services and was Acting Director in 2019.
Ms. Leary's professional public sector career has been unparalleled.
She has shown her commitment to the state of California and our
community through her decades of public service and leadership. Ms.
Leary's integrity, honesty, intelligence and creative problem solving
has served all those she has met throughout her career, and our
district is certainly a better place because of her dedicated service.
Madam Speaker, Ms. Leary is the kind of citizen we should all strive
to be, and I am

honor Patricia G. Leary here today
