                                 PRAYER

  The Chaplain, the Reverend Patrick J. Conroy, offered the following 
prayer:
  Compassionate and merciful God, thank You for giving us another day.
  Look upon us, Your people, and hear our plea for Your comfort and 
healing in our world.
  Inspire the men and women of Congress to be their best selves in 
bringing their skill and insight to the health and economic hardships 
of our day. Strengthen them with the resolve to remain faithful even 
when odds seem so daunting.
  Comfort, as well, all Americans. Empower us to do our part to respect 
the health and freedoms of one another, remembering that along with 
rights come responsibilities. May we be generous with ourselves and 
with those in our communities.
  May everything done this day be for Your greater honor and glory.
  Amen.
